LCD Monitor - The Best Option
The traditional cathode ray tube (CRT) monitors are now being replaced by thin and sleek LCD monitors. However CRTs are still preferred by some professionals for specialized jobs. Many others go for CRT monitors as they are cheaper than other types of monitors. Liquid crystal display (LCD) is the most popular monitor in the market due to multiple advantages it is offering to the consumers. The first and foremost advantage is its size. The bulky CRT monitor requires substantial space to accommodate. The LCD on the other hand requires lesser space and it has only half the weight of conventional monitors.
While choosing a monitor for an existing system the question of compatibility arises. The new monitor should be compatible with the system to which it is to be connected. If there is no compatibility up gradation may become necessary. In case the chosen monitor is a digital LCD, a video card with digital video interface may become necessary. Consumers who want to use the system for graphic intense programme will have to opt for a fast processor. These are now recognized as a standard device in personal computers as well as for commercial usage. A remarkable advantage of LCD monitor is its energy efficiency. It consumes almost half the power than conventional ones. It also radiates less heat than its earlier counterparts. Besides all such advantages, this device offers superb viewing comforts.
LCD monitors are available in different sizes from 19 inches to 24 inches. Widescreen monitors are used for gaming etc. Response time and contrast ratio are two of the important factors that make LCD a favorite choice of the computer users. With most of the LCDs with 25ms response time they are found adequate for general purposes. And for fast moving sequences like gaming it is necessary to have response time of 16ms. As for contrast ratio, these monitors are featured with 400:1 even though many products are being introduced with higher contrast ratio.
Again, minimum brightness level available in LCD monitors is 200cd/m2. Another aspect is Dot pitch. Even though some of the LCD manufacturers refer the term Dot pitch for their products, factually it is not relevant for the Liquid Crystal Display. Unlike CRTs each dot on the LCD screen can display any color and as such the issue of Dot Pitch is not relevant for it.
Internet is a rich source to avail detailed information about monitors, irrespective of their characteristics. Several articles and reviews are posted in the websites describing the merits and demerits of each product. There are many advantages for LCD monitors, but of course some of the disadvantages are also pointed out therein. Experience has taught the consumer that these monitors have comparative advantages over the other categories. Technology is in a fast forward mode. Many of the aberrations found in the early models of LCD monitors are now rectified much to the relief of the users. Rival claims of superiority of products are natural or logical phenomenon in the market mechanism. But LCD monitors are the best options in the contemporary markets, if the sale records are indications to that.

| Review by D. J. Brown (SEATTLE, WA USA) 2009-11-27 The actual display is only 900 lines! Even if it is directly downscaling to 900 lines (instead of 1080 > down to 720 > back up to 900 like some TVs), this is still a loss of quality and misleading advertising. --- Update on December 5th: Thankfully, this produc...
